HRSG Bypass Stack System
Bypass stack system has a three-way valve that discharges exhaust gas from the GT, either into the atmosphere via a by-pass stack or into a Heat Recovery Steam Generator (HRSG). As well as high capacity, it surpasses the norm in terms of geometrical sealing, sealing pressure and closing time, while reducing maintenance and easing transportation and assembly. This new diverter also allows for a rapid transition from single cycle to combined cycle systems.
The use of bypass stacks also allows combined cycle operation during the day and simple cycle operation at night when electricity demand is lowest, resulting in greater savings in operating costs and efficiency over the life of the power plant. The bypass stack and diverter system allows the gas turbine to generate electricity, keeping the plant running and avoiding potential blackouts even when the steam turbine cycle is shut down due to planned or unplanned shutdowns.
While the HRSG is the main part of the steam/exhaust system in a combined cycle power plant, the bypass stack is another important component. The gas turbine bypass system is designed to divert flue gas from the HRSG to a bypass stack with a muffler assembly, allowing the plant to operate in a simple cycle mode. This allows the HRSG to perform inspections, repairs or maintenance in complete isolation from the gas turbine.
